World War III Short Story - 1077 Words

WORLD WAR III He opened the safe and it had gone. No one had the code. Who could have opened it? It was August 4th, 2045. The war was not looking good, and thousands had died. The only thing that could end the war was gone. It was over. So they called in Detective Brown. The dim lit room was covered with smoke stains and bullet holes. â€Å"Sir†¦ the plans are gone,† the soldier guarding the plans was whimpering. â€Å"How could you let this happen!† The General roared. â€Å"I believe I can catch the thief before he returns to France, General,† Detective Brown stroked his moustache. â€Å"You mean he isn’t in France yet?† The General smiled. â€Å"I want troops in every corner and every street of America!† â€Å"There might be a mole. Two soldiers walked in and restrained him with zip ties. â€Å"Who are you?† Detective Brown took a look around. â€Å"Where am I?† â€Å"My name is Thomas James. I’m completely off the grid.† â€Å"Are you letting me go?† Detective Brown grabbed the vial as the two soldiers cut off the zip ties. â€Å"We don’t need you here,† Thomas chuckled. â€Å"You aren’t a rebel for sure?† â€Å"My father was. I’ve never met him. Found flags all over the place.† Thomas threw a key at the Detective. â€Å"You are always welcome.† â€Å"Thanks.† The Detective ran to his office and started testing the blood, when he got a voicemail. â€Å"Hey Detective. Millions of people in more than 140 countries play soccer. The World Cup is held every four years. Soccer is one of the most famous international sports. Soccer is known world wide and is played in the Olympics. In a soccer game there are two teams of 11 players who try to score a point by kicking a ball into the opponents net. Soccer is played on a rectangular field with a net on each short side of the field. All players must hit the ball with their feet or body and only the goalie is allowed to touch the ball with his/her hands. There are many things you can do to condition yourself to play. Soccer the way we play it came from England in the 1800s. Soccer was not that popular until the mid-1900s. Today soccer is very popular and it is one of the nations fastest-growing sports. There are many exercises and drills you can do to improve how you play soccer. There is also many physical conditioning that players can do. Soccer can help you stay fit and healthy. Many people can play soccer and benefit from it. Soccer is very fun and a great recreational sport. History of the ActivityGames similar to soccer were played in China as early as 400 BC. In about 200 AD the Romans played a game in which two teams tried to score by advancing a ball across a line on the field. The Romans passed the ball to one another but they never kicked it. London children in about 1100 played a form of soccer in the streets. During the 1800s the people of England played a game similar to soccer. Many rules changed and each person interpreted the rules differently. In 1848 a group of school representatives met at Trinity College in Cambridge and drew up the first of soccer rules. In 1863 English soccer clubs founded the Football Association. By the late 1800s soccer began to spread to the rest of the world. The Canadian Soccer Association was established in 1912 while the United States Soccer Federation was set up in 1913. The first World Cup Championship was in Montevideo, Uruguay. Since then it has been played every four years except during WWII. During the 197 0s soccer grew to be a very popular spectator sport as well as participant sport. A soccer game begins with a kickoff in the center of the field. A coin is flipped to decide which team will kickoff. The other team kicks off at the start of the second half when the teams switch sides or nets. After a team scores the other team gets to kickoff to begin again. The kickoff takes place in the middle of the field. When the ball is kicked it must travel the circumference of the ball and touch another player before the kicker can touch the ball again. After the ball is in play it remains in play unless it crosses a goal line or a touch line. All players attempt to stop the ball from coming in their zone while at the same time trying to score a goal. A player may kick the ball into the net with any part of the body except the hands and arms. If the ball goes out of bounds the play is restarted with a corner kick, a goal kick, or a throw-in. The referee decides what type to use. If the ball crosses the goal line and the defensive team touched it last then there is a corner kick by the offense. If the offense touches the ball last and crosses the goal line then it is a goal kick. A throw in happens when the ball crosses the touch line. When it crosses the touch line the team that did not touch it last throws the ball in bounds. The ball is thrown over their head with two hands. Fouls are called when a player does not obey the rules and acts unsportsman-like. When a foul is called the opposite team receives either a penalty kick, a di rect free kick or and indirect free kick. .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 , .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 .postImageUrl , .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 , .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38:hover , .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38:visited , .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38:active { border:0!important; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38:active , .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38 .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4f0bdf60f50c0a7f95f7d5d56ef95f38:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Slavery In The East EssayPhysical ConditioningThere are many exercises that people can do to improve in soccer. Exercises that strengthen your legs and improve flexibility are ideal. Physical conditioning is important if you plan on being good at soccer. Here are five exercises that are ideal for soccer:Running: running helps to improve cardiovascular fitness. In soccer there is lots of running for the ball so endurance and a speed is a must. Leg Stretches: using weights can help strengthen the legs. Using weights makes you kick harder and makes the ball travel farther, as a result you become a better player. Leg Machines: exercising all muscles in the leg makes you kick harder and prevents injury when you are diving all over for the ball. The strong muscles help prevent injuries. Stretching: stretching allows you to be more flexible. Sometimes soccer players need to kick the ball in the most awkward positions. Flexibly helps the player to kick the ball in those positions more effectively. Weight Training: all around weight training makes a soccer player even better. A stronger body helps prevent injury and improve all around performance. Practice Drills help the soccer player be more skillful and a better player. There are many drills that can be done. Drills like dribbling to head butting are often used. Some of these drills include:Practicing kicking the ball is a very important and often done drill. To practice the player will kick the ball into the net. Often there is a goalie that they try to score on. Kicking is the most important skill in soccer. Practicing will make your kick stronger and more controllable. Passing is also a very important skill. One drill that can be done is to run side by side with another player and pass the ball back and forth. This skill will improve your passing and receiving skills. Passing is also vital in the game of soccer. Heading is one of the only ways to legally hit the ball when it high in the air. With another player heading can be practiced. One player throws the ball high over top of the other player. The player then will jump up and hit the ball with his forehead and try to control the ball. Heading is very hard and often lots of practice is required. Control of the ball is also very important. By setting up pylons in any order and distance and weaving through them in a pattern like formation can improve your control of the ball. Trying to go quick can also improve your speed of running while dribbling a ball. One on one practice improves both your dribbling and tackling. With two players one is given the ball and must keep the ball away from the other player. While one player is improving his faking and dribbling the other is practicing his defense and tackling. When this drill is done often it can improve your offense as well as defense. Soccer can be done in many age groups. Children often play the sport in school as early as elementary school. Many adults also play the sport. Seniors rarely play soccer because of the easiness it is for them to get injured. Soccer is often very demanding. Soccer for many kids can be very fun. Most children dont think of soccer as work and often enjoy playing soccer. Adults also sometimes find soccer fun and even some adults have careers in the area as a professional soccer player. Soccer is very valuable in obtaining life long fitness. Soccer can be a very demanding sport. Soccer can improve your cardiovascular fitness as well as strength and flexibility. All the physical conditioning and practice drills are very important in keeping fit. Soccer players are able to be healthy and strong because of the physical involvement.

NATO and the Warsaw pact free essay sample

However, this was not due to lack of trying as throughout the later part of the 20th century the two factions previously mentioned, characterized by the Warsaw pact and the acronym NATO respectively, were at each others throats in a tense, bloodless struggle that came to be known as he Cold War; a war during which no shots were fired, but was a thousandth more dangerous than any other conflict. This potentially catastrophic struggle for world domination was caused by diverse international factors, however, one of the largest of said factors was the division of the world into two camps; the NATO countries and the Warsaw pact nations, or, as George bush said it, the Cold War began with the division of Europe (1 which was what these two factions accomplished. What, then. Were the circumstances that surrounded the creation of these two entities and how exactly did they intricate to the tensions during the Cold War?These are the very questions that shall be examined in this essay, beginnin g with a brief explanation of the creation of the organizations referred to as NATO and the Warsaw Pact and the circumstances surrounding their creations. We will write a custom essay sample on NATO and the Warsaw pact or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page After World War II, the state of international diplomacy seemed bright: the major powers were allied together, Japan and Germany had been defeated, and all the soldiers could return home. With the USSR and the LOS as allies, it seemed that war was now a thing of the past. This soon changed, however, as East-West relations continued to deteriorate. Because they faced a common enemy in Hitler, the Grand Alliance became a marriage of necessity forged by the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union (2) and with the war over the differences between the communism of the USSR and the capitalism of the IIS became more and more apparent. What followed was a serious set of political faux pas and incidents that served to confound East-West relations in the postwar world. Two major incidents that set the stage for the coming rivalry were the Czechoslovakian crisis and the Berlin Blockade. The Czechoslovakian crisis refers to the Soviet coup that occurred in the state of Czechoslovakia in 1 948 where the leaders of the government were deposed and pro-Soviet leaders were appointed. This resulted in the American Senate (voting).. .. To extend the Marshall Plan (, which was a plan of economic aid to the hope of preventing communist success elsewhere (3). The Berlin blockade was far more serious as it involved the Soviets Imposing) a blockade on all road and rail traffic into the former national capital (4) of West Berlin, which was under allied control. These two incidents, and other similar ones, forged an atmosphere of growing distrust and set the world long the road to the Cold War and the formation of NATO and the Warsaw pact. NATO, or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was a military alliance between what became the western bloc countries against the perceived threat of the USSR and communism. The original countries, which included Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and the United States, who was essentially the dominate member, signed the North Atlantic Treaty on April 4, 1 949 which pledged them to protect one another in the event of a war with the USSR. Since most of these nations were generally on the same side, if you will, during World War II, NATO was, in many respects, a continuation of wartime alliances into a new era during which the previously allied countries thought that they were threatened by a new threat. This threat was Russia, now the USSR. At the end of World War II, Soviet Russia was basking in its victory of Nazi Germany and though the war left Russia with 1700 towns, 70000 villages, 80000 miles of railroad, and 800 bridges destroyed (5), Russia was launching another of its five year plans for economic and industrial cover and appeared to be one of the major powers of the postwar world. Also, the USSR had successfully set up several puppet regimes in Eastern Europe, which were referred to as satellite states of the USSR, in such countries as Albania and Czechoslovakia. The US began to see these acquisitions with fear since the key geopolitical problem has long been considered the alignment of Europe, because imbalances in that alignment have touched off TTY. To wars in this century (6). Thus, to counter the growing influence of the USSR, the US pushed for an alliance between the remaining free nations of Europe and North America. With this step, the NATO powers began a policy that the West called. Containment (7), which was essentially a policy of matching the USSR Step for Step to maintain a world peace.Though this policy, in effect, maintained a semblance of world peace and prosperity, the true feeling in the international arena of politics at the time was one of suspicion, tension and fear. What the creation of NATO really began was half a century of political struggle between the two major blocs of the world; the NATO countries, and the countries of the soon to be formed Warsaw Pact. The Warsaw pact became the soviet response to the formation of NATO-Generally speaking, the Warsaw Pact was a treaty between 7 eastern European countries, namely Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Russia (LESS) which stipulated the member countries obligation of mutual defense in regards to one another in the event Of a war between them and the Western bloc nations. Like NATO, the Warsaw Pact would have its dominant member, and this member was clearl y Russia as she had installed puppet communist regimes in all of these nations prior to the signing of the Warsaw Pact.In fact, Soviet troops already occupied most f the regions defined by the Warsaw Pact nations, and thus the signing (of the pact) is interpreted as simply a De cure recognition of the existing state of affairs (8). However, it did serve some purpose, as the end of the Austrian Treaty threatened troop placements in Eastern Europe, which was previously done under the pretense of guarding lines of communication, as it terminated the agreement through which Russia had previously stationed troops in this area. Thus, one of the most important stipulation of the Warsaw Pact was the ability of Russia to occupy the member countries of the WarsawPact in the name of self defense and the defense of the other member states. This, in effect, insured Russians dominance in the region. Finally, the act can also be seen as the result of the presence of and outside threat and the need for a Soviet sponsored security system to deal with it (9). The final result of this pact, though, beyond the immediate military implications for Eastern Europe, was to create a counterpart for NATO; a foe towards which the hostility of nearly fifty years would be directed. The world had again been divided into two camps, and it then looked like war Was again possible.

The More You Tell, The More You Sell

The More You Tell, The More You Sell The More You Tell, The More You Sell The More You Tell, The More You Sell By Michael Most writers dont need encouragement to write more words. After all, thats how some of them get paid: by the word! Using the words you need and no more writing concisely is a skill that every writer spends a lifetime learning. Mark Twain once said, â€Å"I didnt have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.† But the main problem of many writers, especially reluctant writers and business owners, is not that they say more than they need, but rather, that they say less than they need. Writers can be too lazy to edit and trim their work, but they can also be too lazy to think enough about their subject to cover it adequately. The direct mail copywriters of old had a saying, The more you tell, the more you sell. It was a bold statement. Other copywriters argued that people dont want to read long copy, would stop reading before they got to the end of the sales letter, the advertiser would lose sales. Thats a valid objection, to which the proper response is, Then ask for the sale before they get to the end! Theres nothing wrong with giving the customer more than one chance to buy. Besides, none of us reads more than we want to, except for students and acquisitions editors. We all read until we lose interest, or we skip ahead, go back, or jump to the end. We keep reading as long as we feel theres something in it for us. And thats where, as a copywriter, you win more when you tell more. The more reasons you give the customers to buy, the more likely they will buy. Once theyre convinced, they will stop reading anyway and start ordering. Or they might go back later and read the rest to reassure themselves they made the right choice. Reassurance is an important purpose of marketing communications too. Start your writing process by listing all the reasons someone should buy your product or service. Get a friend or a customer to tell you if you dont know. Dont be lazy. If a reason is compelling, dont leave it out if you have space. On your website, you have unlimited space to tell your story. List your most attractive benefits and let your readers decide which ones are most attractive to them. True, you dont want your marketing piece to appear too long to read. You have to format your writing so people can read only what they want. In sales literature, you might use bold text and headings so your readers know where to skip to. When writing for the Web, its especially easy add links to other pages. Your benefits dont all need to be on the same page, as long as customers can find them when they need them. Your potential customers will follow the links that interest them, and will ignore the ones that dont. Certainly, start off short and sweet for those who dont want to read much. But dont stop until youve told the whole story to those who insist on hearing it all. Comparison shoppers, such as myself, actually look for longer text. We tend to believe that the product that mentions the most benefits probably has the most benefits. If the copywriter neglected to mention that it has a five-year warranty, how are we supposed to know that it does? Customers buy for many reasons. Some are convinced by one point, others are convinced by another. But if you leave out their favorite point, thats one point that wont help make the sale. Celiac Disease - Smart Custom Writing Samples

Celiac Disease - Smart Custom Writing Internal Communication. An undeniable fact one may claim is that we are all involved in every day communication process. Whether it is a chat on the phone with a friend, daily newspaper reading, TV watching, socializing in a family circle or at school, college or at workplace – that is all a continuous information interchange thus being communication. The work for each individual is an indispensible part of life. That is the self-realization and make-a-living field. The organization of proper environment the staff is involved in goes beyond doubt. It results in coherent and collaborative team work and their effective performance. Therefore in any profit-making business sphere or public relations area we anyhow deal with management practice. So, let’s get an insight into the inner nature of a company’s arrangement. Any business structure inevitably encounters some sorts of ‘roughnesses’ that is the problems connected with underestimation and/or lack of motivation and information awareness of some staff members. Such ‘impurities’ may provoke disunity and discord in vision and perception of the company’s main priorities, future perspectives, strategies etc. that constitute its key conception. Not of the least are the issues of personnel’s obscure and misleading comprehension of his or her own role in the whole company’s success-building machine. To tune up this whole mechanism sophisticated managerial tools are applied. Hence, we touch the notion of internal communication (IC). It comprises the company’s functional leverage of monitoring, motivating, encouraging and coordinating the work of employees. It reflects the prowess of elaborate management policy. Thus, we need to clarify and elucidate some aspects concerned with the internal communic ation practice. ‘Internal’ designates the very gist of the process on question. It generally implies not only socializing among each other, but also has a wider sense representing the visible result of the correlated and interconnected efforts of each participant.   The relationships and attitudes among ‘senior’ and ‘junior’ members influence inner performance and matter a lot in shaping the image of a company outside. Here the IC is substantially helpful to reach the goals the governing body pursues. The work with personnel should not just envisage giving orders and expecting their dutiful fulfillment. This approach to dealing with staff is very delusive and lacks essentials – there must be a dialog between ‘boss’ and ‘subordinate’ in all levels of company’s operation. For the both sides to be mutually beneficial and their interests not to clash a special strategy is developed that contains certain aspects to be consid ered.   Ã¢â‚¬ËœTo listen to’ aspect can’t be ignored. It’s essential that Human Resources Management (HRM) take into account employees’ viewpoints, ideas, suggestions, since it gives the staff a feeling of their direct involvement in the process. Collection, procession and distribution of information among employees regarding the state of business and possible current problems is meaningful to create overall awareness and advances respect and loyalty to a company. In this connection we speak about interconnectivity that can be achieved by internal communication means.   Every day in any organization a great deal of issues is discussed and devolved through briefings, conferences, meetings, forums etc. where the staff participants are actually present. Hence they are engaged in face-to-face communication. Another way to represent and deliver information is either by printed regulations, newsletters and brochures or electronically – e.g. e-mail, voice-mail, messaging and corporate net system called intranet. It’s evident that nowadays world everyday witnesses the impetuous technological progress which helps to optimize and maximize people’s work. With the emergence of Internet humans saw the increasing role of electronic communication that was marked by convenience and relative velocity in information exchange. The benefits are obvious. So, firms, organizations, companies and enterprises viewed the perspective of application the analogy of global web being limited to the boundaries of internal company’s structure – intranet. Virtually it is a private network that serves the function of data storage and its distribution among all employees. The access to the system is available only to staff and restricted to non-authorized persons. The intranet constrains the external entry by means of firewall and thus provides safety of net content. Since intranet exploits the same technologies and tools which are applicable in internet for the web and e-mail service and also file transfer, no extra time and efforts are necessary for the staff members to adapt and utilize the corporate net capacity. Another advantage that counts is also the enhanced efficiency that staff show which is obtained by prompt and easy access to the database. Apparently, it proves to be useful when dealing with complex project work that necessitates the interchange of ideas with partners and seeking for the information relevant to the work performed. Therefore it might be facilitating to use links to collect data, then discuss it online with project participants and so share the viewpoints. Such an example among other positive sides of internal web resource demonstrates its time-saving expediency. In addition, the work of line managers is supported and to an extent simplified, since the work net is constantly updated and replenished. Thus, there is no need for an employee to persistently bother a line or senior manager with minor and insignificant issues. This kind of information is always at disposal in the intranet. Alongside with the virtues there come vices. The implementation of this sort of systems appears to be costly. Small businesses are unlikely to design and bring into action sophisticated intranets as compared to big corporations. Programming, design, constant upgrading inevitably requires investment. Unfortunately, another hindrance seems to be quite significant. We can’t but agree that however elaborate and well-programmed the network can be it is still exposed to insecurity (About.com. Wireless/Networking). Computer tampering may be regarded as a contemporary problem number one in electronic communication. Moreover, considering a modern arena of leadership and competition not always sound actions are undertaken. The competitors may resort to tricks in attempts to fish out the information they can get advantage of. On the grounds of the mentioned pros and cons we can arrive at conclusion that in future for the intranet as the internal communication tool to become more secure it’s essential to pay thorough attention to the company’s R D activities in search of more failsafe and reliable information guarding. Concerning the whole internal communication practice we should emphasize the importance of psychological aspect in recruiting personnel and scrutinizing their relevance to the position and the end-result of their work. A special team of professional psychologists and analysts is able to timely reveal and prevent the possible deviation of some individuals from the main policy. That will immensely contribute to foresee the leak of information and hidden intensions of intranet users in case they turn out to be not true members of the team but possible spies. Thereby, to avoid malfunction and make the whole mechanism work in accord the constituents matter a lot.
